Federal Contract Compliance Programs Announce Change in Posting of Notices by Shawn D. Lochinger |
July 2001 The Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs ("OFCCP") has announced that beginning immediately, Government Contractors/Subcontractors must post notices advising their employees that they have a legal right to withhold part of their union dues. This poster, more commonly known as "the Beck Poster," informs non-union employees who pay periodic union dues as part of an Agreement with a Union that they can refuse to pay any part of the dues which do not support collective-bargaining, contract administration, or grievance procedures. Presently, the OFCCP does not have any preprinted posters that can be used by Contractors/Subcontractors. The OFCCP has indicated that it will issue an "official" poster sometime late in 2001. As a final note, however, the OFCCP has also announced that the lack of a preprinted poster will NOT obviate the need for Contractors/Subcontractors to post a notice immediately. Any Contractors/Subcontractors in need of assistance in posting a temporary notice should contact the Rhoads & Sinon Employment & Labor Law Group. |
